Yo! What’s up everybody? This week’s #trueOGseries Friday Phonk is the first after the holiday break but unfortunately is also coming during what is a disturbing trend upwards with violence in Hip Hop. This week’s episode is continuing the silence but we still have great music in the mix for y’all. Check it out.

Indie/Hustler Spotlight

Give it up one time for STEEZA. The lyrically gifted emcee from Baltimore stands for “SPITTIN TRUTH ENLIGHTENS EVERY ZEALOUS ASIATIC”. There’s a lot that can be said about the Baltimore scene and STEEZA represents everything that is right and exact with the culture.

What I appreciate most about the music is STEEZA’s continuous flow & good ear for beats. His latest release, BLAST4ME, features exclusive production from another Baltimore heavy-weight in EU-IV and it’s a combination that brings the grimy, sub-bass & dusty drums out from the basement and right into your eardrums. Support the young emcee and check his work out now.

The man, the myth, the legend. STEEEZO “EEE” is a producing wizard from Japan. Born in Kushiro, Hokkaido, He has made a name for himself by adopting the “TEENAGE ENGINEERING OP-1โ€ as his instrument of choice. The Swedish synthesizer/sampler is famous not only for its $1,300 USD price tag, but also for being able to sample anything at any time from anywhere.

STEEEZO has mastered this ability. His productions are so raw and visceral that they begin to enter Madlib/Flying Lotus/Ras G territory with their complex, rhythmic arrangements. Being in the digital age, it’s also a treat to see the amazing visuals that remind me of a late 90’s video game aesthetic. His most recent release is with fellow Japanese emcee chili, entitled “high way”.

Check out STEEEZO’s work here and support great art!

We accept submissions to be featured in the Indie/Hustler Spotlight on Friday Phonk. If you are a creative of any discipline and would like to spread your message and your art, please send a brief bio and release you would like highlighted below

There are 3 more episodes left in season 4! Stay tuned.
