The year of 2020 has been one for the books and I don’t mean that in a good way. This year has been a mess every month and it hasn’t gotten any better. At the beginning of the year the president of the United States had the opportunity to stop the coronavirus from coming into the US or at least had the opportunity to keep it from spreading. Him being him, he didn’t take the necessary precautions he needed to take in order to do that, so the virus spread throughout the whole United States, infecting millions of people and also killing them. You would think that would be the biggest problem of 2020, but sadly it was only one part.
Racism has always been around. Many white people have shown in different ways of how they feel about black people. With that being said racism has never left, but this year has been the worst it’s been in a long time. It started when a white police man stood on George Floyd’s (a black man) neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds during an arrest for a counterfeit $20 bill. He constantly told him that he couldn’t breathe but the police officer by the name of Derek Chauvin didn’t give up until he was dead. His death led to a protest against police brutality. Sadly police brutality has always been a thing as well, but this one was the last straw. After this there were many more acts of police brutality even during the protests. It got to a point where it seemed like some of the police didn’t even care if you catch them in the act anymore. It seemed like they just knew that they have the upper hand because they’re “police”. What really topped everything off was that the president was on their side. He called the protesters names and he was basically missing the whole point of the Black Live Matter protests. Or maybe, he just didn’t care.
It is now november and it is the week of the election. I can honestly say that I am very nervous. Even though I have seen some people come to their senses and turn against Trump, I still don’t know which way this election is going to go. There’s also rumors going around saying that if Biden wins, all of the “proud boys” and KKK’s and any other trump supporter are going to go around and kill black people. Personally, that left me a little scared because I had to go to work during the times the winner would be announced and I didnt want to get off of work and go into danger. I also feel like if Trump wins there’s still going to be riots and things like that. No matter who wins there’s going to be something that happens.
So far it has basically been a week and there is still no reported winner. It is clear that Biden is winning and if he does that would be very exciting. One thing that is calming my nerves is how people are reacting on twitter. They are very funny and they are making a lot of jokes about how Nevada is taking forever to count the votes. All Biden needs is 6 electoral votes to win and people are saying that Nevada is counting the votes like they have all the time in the world.
It is Saturday, November 9th, 2020 and the 46th president of the United States of America is….JOE BIDEN. I am so happy that he won and I am so happy that it was my first time voting and it was a win. Of course there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done but this is definitely an amazing start. To make this win even better, the first female vice president is a black woman and we really love to see it!
